Brief Itinerary

Day One

Meet at Tawau Airport in the early morning & overland transfer to Maliau Basin which takes 5 to 6 hours to get to the Base Camp.  Early brunch along the way.

1400hrs expected arrival time. Afternoon at leisure to wander around Agathis Camp’s Nature Trail. After dinner (if weather permits) go for a night drive in search of nocturnal animals through the 27 kilometres access road along the Agathis Camp to Belian Camp. Overnight at Agathis Camp.

Day Two

Early Breakfast at the camp. After breakfast, begin the 7km trekking through the rainforest to reach the Nepenthes Camp (Also known as Camel Trophy Camp). This will take about 6 hours of trekking over the rim of the Maliau Basin – Borneo’s Lost World. The first two hours trek is the most challenging uphill adventure. Enjoy the surrounding rich vegetation while having the midday packed lunch. The expected arrival at Nepenthes Camp is around 1 pm. Later, walk to the Giluk Falls is about one hour away and return to Nepenthes Camp. A dip in th pool is possible or go on a trek for two hours or so to see the spectacular Takob Akob Falls which is about 100 metres in height. Dinner and overnight at Nepenthes Camp.

Day Three

Breakfast at the camp. After breakfast, trek along the lowland Dipterocarp Forests for about 4–5 hours (6.5km) to Maliau Falls junction. Expected arrival and packed lunch at  Maliau Falls junction at midday. Continue the  journey to Maliau Falls via Lobah Camp; the distance is about 5 kilometres. It takes 2 to 3 hours of downhill trek. Take the opportunity to photograph the majestic 7-tiers Maliau Falls. Enjoy the panoramic view of the Maliau Basin rim at the Lobah Helipad.  Trek to Ginseng Camp and expected to arrive at 1800hrs. Dinner and overnight at Ginseng Camp.

Day Four

Breakfast at the camp. After breakfast, trek along the rainforest back to Agathis Camp. It takes about 6–7 hours trekking. Stop for packed lunch at any rest station before continuing your trek to Agathis Camp. Settle in at the Agathis Camp for the last night of the adventure in the tropical rainforest. Overnight at Agathis Camp.

Day Five

Breakfast at the camp. Depart Agathis Camp, take the ground transfer to Tawau Airport. On the way, stopover at the watch tower and Sky Bridge at Belian Camp. 1300hrs, expected arrival at Tawau Airport for the onward flights.

Brief Itinerary

Day One

Arrive Lahad Datu Airport. Meet and proceed journey (2 hours) overland to Borneo Rainforest Lodge. This is the largest protected area of lowland dipterocarp rainforest in Sabah, covering 43,800 hectares. Upon arrival, check into the lodge. After lunch, orientation with slides presentation will be conducted at Conference Room. Proceed for the afternoon trek with introduction to the forest through the Nature Trails and tree top Canopy Walkway of 300m in length and 26m at the highest point, for a close-up observation of the rainforest. Dinner at the lodge. Night drive in an open-top vehicle in search of nocturnal animal.


Day Two

After breakfast, depart for a guided walk on the “Coffin Trail” that leads to an ancient burial site (a 3km return trip, involving a 40 minutes climb to a magnificent look-out point and returning via the Jacuzzi pool). Walk down to Borneo Rainforest Lodge for lunch.  In the afternoon, a walk on the nature trail, suspension bridge and observation platform with the naturalist guide. Return to Borneo Rainforest Lodge. After dinner, depart for another night drive/walk.


Day Three

Optional : Early morning walk and return to the lodge for Lunch before check-out to Lahad datu for transfer to Airport for onward flight. (Recommended flight on MH 2023 ETD1725hrs)

Brief Itinerary

Meet at hotel lobby and transfer to the airport for flight MH2042 ETD0710hrs ETA0750hrs, AK6492 ETD0700hrs ETA0740hrs to Sandakan. Upon arrival, proceed for an experience – a close encounter with the “Wildman of Borneo”. See how tamed Orang Utans that are being rehabilitated into the wild. A boardwalk leads you to a viewing gallery and feeding platform where the apes are fed milk and bananas twice a day at 10.00am and 3.00pm by rangers.


Feeding time also attracts long-tailed macaques to the area. Lunch at the charming English Tea House Restaurant, a former Colonial Residence, and serving western cuisine is conveniently located adjacent to the Agnes Keith Museum. The restaurant has a panoramic view of the city of Sandakan.

Brief city tour of Sandakan and visit the Puh Jih Shih Buddhist Chinese Temple at 300 meters above sea level, offers a panoramic view of Sandakan Bay. Then, transfer to airport for returning flight to Kota Kinabalu on MH2047 ETD1250hrs ETA1335hrs or AK6495 ETD1430hrs ETA1515hrs. On your arrival, transfer to your hotel.

Visit the restored colonial home, now a Museum, of the famous American writer – Agnes Keith in Sandakan. During the years between 1934 and 1952, Agnes Keith penned a trilogy of her moving experience during her stay in Sandakan. The first book was “Land Below the Wind” published in 1939; the book tells on those halcyon pre-war days. The second book was “Three Came Home”, published in 1947 which is focused on hardships suffered during the Second World War.  And the third book was “White Man Returns”, published in 1951 which tells of her life in Sandakan after the war.

2) Australian War Memorial (F.O.C)


Australian War Memorial Park, situated on the site of the Sandakan Prisoner of War Camp, holds a commemorative pavilion which includes a scale model of the original POW camp. An obelisk of black granite commemorating those who died is also located within the park.  As the story told by the guide unfolds, it forms a truly profound experience for the visitors.

3) Rainforest Discovery Centre (MYR 30.00 per person)

At the Rainforest Discovery Centre, located within the Kabili- Sepilok Forest Reserve, learn about the rainforest ecology and experience its amazing biodiversity. Walk through its well marked trails and see the displays of flora such as pitcher plants, native orchids and gingers. The 150 metre long Canopy Walkway which provides a panoramic atop view of the tall rainforest trees, is a great trail to see the bird life and wildlife such as squirrels and orang utans, high above the canopy. There are over 250 species of exotic bird life such as pitas, hornbills and the rare Bornean Bristlehead found here.
