The Kipandi Butterfly Park is located at Kg. Kipandi, Moyog about 36KM from Kota Kinabalu city via Penampang-Tambunan road, surrounded by the hills of the Crocker Range at 700m altitude and rich in entomofauna. Over 100 species of butterflies have been recorded. Butterflies came to the garden for the flower shrubs. Butterflies such as Torides brookianan (Raja Brool’s Birdwing), Troides amphrysus (Golden Birdwing) and the Papilio Karna (Peacock swallow tail) can easily be found and photographed. Visit The Insect Museum, over 800 butterfly specimens and over 1800 beetles including many endemic species which only can be found in Crocker Range like the Cyclommatus Chewi. See the plant collection at a special enclosed constructed house for some of the rare and endangered orchids and pitcher plants of Sabah. The collection contains 400 species of native orchids and 28 species of Hoyas and 5 species of Lipstick flowers (Aeschynanthus) and medical plants.
In the afternoon, continue drive overland over the ridges of the Crocker Range to Tambunan Rafflesia Centre to see the largest flower in the world. Visit the Exhibition Hall before proceeding on a nature trek in search of Rafflesia buds on the forest floor. Enjoy the cool mountain air and the natural surroundings of a lowland montane forest before returning to Kota Kinabalu.
